Every now and then, we need something to snap us out of it. Here are a few things you can do immediately that will make you feel happier today!
- Take a walk outside. Some fresh air and movement will always give you a happiness boost!
- Go exercise! Take a class, do a workout video at home, head outside for a run… get those endorphins flowing!
- Watch Planet Earth. There is something magical about watching Earth and all it’s creation. There is a beautiful world in operation behind a lot of the YUCK in life.
- Journal. Writing out how you feel and working through the thoughts in your mind by bringing them to paper is extremely therapeutic. Not the best writer? Don’t worry! This isn’t a contest. It’s simply just a brain dump.
- Knock things off of your to-do list. This might not seem very fun and happy, but getting a few things done that have been on your to-do list for awhile can feel SO great.
- Stay off social media for the day. Social media can be a lot to take in. Try staying off of it for a day and notice how much better you can feel!
- Make a plan. Sometimes feeling down can stem from feeling a lack of interest in life and overall lack of purpose. Grab a pen and paper and make a plan for yourself for the next two-five years. List your goals, things you want to start doing, how you want to feel, who you want to be…
- Make a happy list. Notice how much I like writing? : ) It’s hard to feel sad when you are focusing on the things that bring you joy. Start a list and let it all flow. This can be anything from chocolate and your guilty pleasure tv show to birds singing in the morning.
- Get a massage. Physical touch is so extremely beneficial when you are feeling down. This doesn’t need to be an intense, deep tissue, but try and go for a more relaxing/calming massage. Getting that blood flowing is sure to make you feel more peaceful and content.
- Get rid of STUFF. Does it spark joy? Go Marie Kondo on your house. Not only will it take your mind off of how you feel (sometimes we need to just do something that keeps us busy to change our state of mind), but the results of clearing out clutter are proven to be GREAT.
I hope these help! Remember, we all have good and bad days. I’ve had bad YEARS in my past and the best thing I ever did for myself was take better care of my mind and body and seek therapy to get me through it. There is light at the end of the tunnel, even when it seems so unclear and merely impossible. I promise you that!
